By following good charging habits for your mobility scooter, you can maximise the life of your batteries and the range per charge. Plus it will give you confidence and peace of mind to use your mobility scooter every day knowing that you won’t run out of charge on the High Street in Portadown. There are actually two batteries which power your mobility scooter and they are charged by plugging in to the charger which was supplied with your scooter.
How do I know when to charge my mobility scooter?
On the tiller, there is a meter which indicates your battery life. Depending on the make of the mobility scooter, this display may be symbols or colour-coded to indicate your charge level. This gives you a visual reminder of when to charge your electric scooter but it is a good idea to get into the habit of doing it on a regular basis.
How often should I charge my electric scooter?
This depends on how often you use it. If you are out and about on your mobility scooter every day, we would encourage you to charge it every day. If you use your scooter less frequently, charge it up at least once per week to prevent the cells in your mobility scooter batteries from dying prematurely.
How do I charge my mobility scooter?
- Turn your mobility scooter off.
- Connect the charger to the charging socket on the mobility scooter. This could be on the tiller or at the back of the scooter, depending on your model.
- Plug the charger into the power socket and turn the power on.
- The battery should now start to charge and you should see this on the meter. Charging times can vary depending on the size of scooter, type of battery and charge remaining in the battery. A full charge could last between six to ten hours so it would be a good idea to do this overnight. When the battery is fully charged, the light on the charger turns green. Don’t worry about overcharging the battery – when the battery is connected to power, the charger will only charge as much as is required.
- Finally disconnect the charger remembering to turn off the power switch first.
What happens if my mobility scooter is no longer holding a charge?
The first step is to call Bann Mobility on 028 3833 5771 and we can arrange to carry out a load test to see if they can be recharged. If your batteries fail the test, it’s time for new batteries. Unfortunately batteries don’t last indefinitely and this varies by usage, driver weight, charging habits and battery type. At your mobility scooter’s annual service, we will check your batteries and let you know if they need to be replaced.
Remember that Bann Mobility have batteries for all types of scooters including Pride Mobility, Drive, TGA, Freerider and Kymco Healthcare.
