The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in your home but if you are elderly or have any mobility issues, it can be a difficult room to use safely.  At Bann Mobility, we have a range of handy bathroom aids which could make a real difference to you.

The Shower

Fitting a shower rail can make you feel more safe as you get into the shower.  Rails can be screwed into position or suction options are available too.  When in the shower, you could sit on a shower stool meaning that you don’t have to stand for too long.  Some shower stools even come with handles which are very handy when you want to stand up again.

Shower mats or shower stickers are also very useful as they help to prevent your feet from slipping on a wet surface.

The Bath

If you would prefer to use the bath instead of a shower, there are many accessories which can help you to enjoy taking a bath in comfort and safety.  Bath steps can help you to reduce the height you have to raise your leg.  They can be positioned at the side of the bath to help you climb in and out of the bath.  A bath rail can also be fitted to the side of the bath and this gives you something to hold on to as you get into the bath. Instead of actually sitting in the bath, some people prefer to use a bath board which allows you to sit over the bath and them wash yourself using the shower head.

A bath seat is another option.  They are designed to help you ease yourself in and out of the water so that there is less of a drop when you sit down.  Finally a bath lift can be fitted to your bath which will lower you slowly into the bath.  Other handy accessories for the bath include long handled brushes and even a toe washers to help you reach those parts of your body that are hard to reach.

The Toilet

A raised toilet seat can be very useful especially if you find it hard to bend down to sit at the level of the toilet.  Then you could also have a toilet frame which gives you something to lean on as you stand up when you are finished using the toilet.

The Sink

Perhaps standing at the sink is a struggle for you and it would be helpful to sit down while you brush your teeth.  A perching stool is the answer then and they can be adjusted to the right height for you.

Conditions such as arthritis can make a simple task such as turning a tap on a real challenge.  Tap turners may be the answer and they can be attached to your existing taps very easily.
